The Missouri Valley College women’s soccer team has moved up another three spots in this week’s NAIA coaches top 25 poll.
The Vikings are ranked sixth in this week’s poll, marking the highest position earned in head coach Drew Hawkins’ 18 seasons at Missouri Valley. Since the last poll, the Vikings started conference play with a 3-1 win over Benedictine and a 3-0 shutout at Clarke. They also posted a 2-1 win over Dordt of Iowa and a 1-1 draw with Columbia College. The Vikings are currently 4-0-2 on the season.
Two other Heart of America teams are ranked in the women’s poll, with MidAmerica Nazarene at 20th and Central Methodist jumping up to 18th. That makes Wednesday evening’s tilt against the Eagles in Fayette a Top-20 clash, with kickoff at 5 p.m.
The men’s game will follow at 7 p.m., featuring a Vikings squad that fell to 25th in this week’s polls. Missouri Valley started the conference season with a 4-0 loss to Benedictine and then drawing at Clarke 2-2. This continues the Vikings’ streak of 53 straight appearances in the NAIA poll, dating back to November 2019, which is now the second-longest active streak. The Vikings (1-2-2) are among six Heart teams in the top 25, led by MidAmerica Nazarene rising to second, William Penn falling to eighth, and Grand View entering the rankings in 16th. Clarke is ranked 21st while Baker is 23rd.
