A Missouri Valley College men’s golfer has earned a National award from the NAIA for his play at the MVC Fall Invitational last week.

Felipe Suarez has been named the NAIA Men’s Golfer of the Week after a record-setting performance at the MVC Fall Invitational at Indian Foothills Golf Course. The announcement came days after Suarez was named the the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Suarez won the tournament by three strokes, shooting a three-round score of -17 (199). The -17 (199) set a new program-record for lowest three-round score. Suarez posted scores of -7 (65), -4 (68) and -6 (66), leading the team to an overall score of -50 (814) to win the tournament by 42 strokes. The -50 (814) also set a program-record for lowest team score in a three round tournament.

Suarez becomes the second golfer in program-history to win the National award from the NAIA. Mateo Quigora won the National award twice during the 2022-23 season.

The Viking golf teams will next compete at the CMU Fall Invitational at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville on September 22 and 23.
