An Eldon man is in custody, facing a murder charge after the shooting death of a Versailles woman.

A probable cause statement from the Versailles Police Department accuses 56-year-old Robert Anselmo of shooting Johnetta Yeager in the face Monday, Sept. 22 in the parking lot of a government building on the 100 block of South Burke Street. Court records indicate that the two were in a legal dispute and that Yeager had sought an order of protection against Anselmo. According to police, Anselmo was spotted driving a black truck into Versailles around 7 a.m., then pull into the parking lot of the USDA Service Center. That’s where police say that surveillance footage showed Anselmo wearing a pink and orange hoodie, raising his right arm toward another vehicle’s window in a manner consistent with firing a handgun.

Police went on to say that Anselmo fled the scene before police arrived, finding Yeager unconscious with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a Lake Ozark hospital and then transferred to a Columbia hospital, where she died from her injuries before 5 p.m. that afternoon. Investigators arrested Anselmo on Monday evening and executed a search warrant on his residence, where they say they found his truck and fibers consistent with the clothing that appeared in surveillance footage and witness statements.

Anselmo is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He’s being held without bond in the Morgan County jail, with his initial hearing set for Tuesday, Sept. 30.
