The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works approved motion to request the Marshall City Council to execute a Land Use MOU between MMU and the Missouri Electric Commission (MEC).
As work continues on the Marshall Energy Center project, MEC will need additional storage for project materials. MMU has proposed allowing MEC to utilize the old Crescent Electric property and a portion of the old coal yard for this purpose. The board approved a motion to submit this request to the city council, which is next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 7.
The board is also seeking council approval to authorize utility easements to MEC for nearby properties.
In other news, the board tabled any action to enter into a contract with SOA Architects for the first phase of the new Customer Connect Center. MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom says the construction of the this building would support the continued growth of MMU’s IT and Broadband Department and provide more space for administration and customer service. The project would take about two years to complete.
The board decided to table the contract because SOA Architects estimates the project will cost about $800,000 more than what the board initially budgeted. The board wanted an explanation before proceeding.
The board’s next meeting is set for Wednesday, October 15.
