An Armstrong man will go before a Howard County judge Tuesday, Oct. 14, after charges were filed last week in connection with reports of gunfire along a residential street in the city.
A probable cause statement accuses 60-year-old Michael Edwin Riddell of discharging a firearm from the yard of his residence on Snoddy Street in Armstrong the afternoon of Oct. 5. A witness told Howard County Sheriff’s deputies that Riddell had pointed a firearm in their direction as the witness stood in their driveway. Deputies say that upon their arrival, they discovered shell casings in the roadway in front of Riddell’s driveway, which matched a firearm that deputies found on Riddell. According to the statement, Riddell claimed that he had fired into a dirt pile because of a mishap, then told deputies that he had been shooting fireworks instead.
Riddell is facing felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm, along with a misdemeanor charge of unlawful discharge of a firearm (first offense). He’s currently being held without bond; Tuesday’s hearing will determine whether his bond conditions should change.
