Marshall Public Schools Superintendent Caleb Petet issued a statement regarding updated safety protocols at future home football games after a situation at Friday night’s Homecoming game.
According to Petet’s statement, school administrators and law enforcement received reports from several students about a possible weapon on campus. After an investigation, it was determined that a student was in possession of a CO2 powered BB gun that looked realistic. The district stresses that there was no active threat to students or spectators.
Petet has announced that the district is immediately changing and tightening event supervision and safety protocols for all future home football games. Petet states, “we will no longer allow unaccompanied youths into games and we will no longer allow unaccompanied youths to be out of the stands in large groups.” He also adds that students must be with parents, in the stands, in line, or go home.
