The City of Fayette will receive a grant of almost $55,000 to pay for new park benches and tables.

The grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources will allow Fayette to purchase the fixtures made from recycled scrap tires. City administrator Deanna Cooper announced the grant award at the Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The grant will cover the purchase of 38 picnic tables, six benches, and six ADA-accessible picnic tables. Cooper says installation of the tables will take place over the next several months. Cooper adds that aldermen also learned Tuesday night that Fayette had received a second grant from DNR.

Also Tuesday night, Fayette aldermen approved the hiring of Ralph Paris as a new police officer, as well as three business licenses and two sewer waiver requests. Aldermen also received an update on plans for Main Street Fayette’s annual Trunk or Treat, which will take place on the downtown square the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 26.
