The City of Marceline will host two town hall meetings this month to inform the public about a bond measure on next month’s ballot.

The town halls will take place Tuesday, Oct. 21 and Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Marceline High School Auditorium. Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

Residents in Marceline will vote Nov. 4 on a proposed $30 million revenue bond to fund improvements and extensions of the city’s waterworks and sewer system. According to the city, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has noted that extensive work is needed on the current system, ranging from the removal of phosphorus and nitrogen, to the correcting of inflow and infiltration. City officials say that if voters approve the measure, the bonds can be leveraged to seek grants and subsidized, low interest rate, long-term loans that they wouldn’t be able to obtain were the city to instead issue lease certificates.
