An armed subject took his own life after a standoff with area law enforcement inside a residence in Marshall at 6 a.m. on Monday, October 20.
According to the Marshall Police Department, the Saline County E-911 Center received a telephone call reporting a disturbance on North Lyon Street. The reporting party stated an individual was in the residence with a firearm and needed assistance from police.
Upon officer’s arrival they entered the residence and attempted to locate the individual and learned they had barricaded themselves in the basement of the home. Police identified themselves and attempted to get the individual to come out of the basement, but they refused and fired three shots from a firearm from the basement. Officers exited the home as there were no other people inside, secured the perimeter, and contacted Missouri State Highway Patrol for assistance. Saline County Sheriff Deputies, Saline County Ambulance and Marshall Fire Department responded to assist.
After several hours of the de-escalation process, the decision was made by the Missouri State Highway Patrol to deploy irritant gas inside the home. Tactical officers then entered the home and saw that the individual had taken their life. No shots were fired by police.
