
Two area softball teams will collide in the state semifinals this Friday, Oct. 31, with a bid to the Class Three State Championship game on the line.
The Chillicothe Hornets and Macon Tigerettes will square off at Meador Park in Springfield at noon Friday, after winning their respective quarterfinal contests last weekend. The Hornets trounced Odessa 10-1 to advance to Springfield, while the Tigerettes needed an extra inning to put away Lutheran St Charles, 9-6. Doniphan and Cassville will battle on the other field at noon, with the third place contest at 5:15 p.m. Friday, while the Class Three title game will take place Saturday at 12:15 p.m.
The Holden Eagles continue to soar through the postseason, taking care of New Bloomfield 16-3 in a Class Two quarterfinal. They will face Mid-Buchanan, who for the second straight year ended Carrollton’s season, this time by a 17-2 score. Holden and Mid-Buchanan will battle at 11 a.m. Friday, while Montgomery County and South Harrison clash on the other diamond. The third-place game will take place at 3 p.m., with the championship bout Saturday at 10 a.m.
Gallatin advanced to the Class One semifinals with a 6-2 victory over La Plata. The Bulldogs will face Halfway on Friday at 1:30 p.m., with the other semifinal between defending champions Saint Elizabeth and Princeton. The third-place game is that evening at 7:30 p.m., while the championship game is Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Class Four semifinals set for Thursday at 1 p.m. are between Kearney and St Francis Borgia of Washington, along with Tolton Catholic of Columbia and Imperial Windsor of Jefferson County. The Class Five semifinals Thursday at noon pit Grain Valley against Rock Bridge, and Lindbergh against either Republic or Raymore-Peculiar.
