The Missouri Valley Vikings fell 66-7 on Saturday, Nov. 1, on the road to the third-ranked Benedictine Ravens, remaining winless in Heart of America South Division play.
The Vikings were forced to punt on all but two of their possessions in the first half, with another ending in a fumble and the other coming at the end of a half that saw Benedictine score touchdowns on all six of their possessions, totaling 363 yards of offense. The Ravens also scored a touchdown on a blocked punt to end the first quarter.
The Vikings attempted to generate some positive movement, intercepting Ravens quarterback Mark Harris in the third quarter. That drive stalled, but the Vikings defense forced Benedictine to punt on the next drive, setting up Missouri Valley’s only scoring drive of the game. The Vikings went 80 yards, with Tomele Staples completing three passes of at least ten yards. The third was to Nate Pouliot for 18 yards in the endzone with 13:46 remaining in the game. However, the Ravens would score twice more in the game to complete the rout.
Staples went 12-for-23 on the afternoon, throwing for 104 yards and one touchdown but one interception. Pouliot had three catches for 55 yards including the lone touchdown, while Silas Morton carried the ball 12 times for 33 yards. Missouri Valley was limited to six first downs in the game and 145 yards of total offense.
The Vikings fall to 3-5 overall, with an 0-4 mark in the Heart of America South. MidAmerica Nazarene will pay a visit to Volney C Ashford Stadium next week for Senior Day, with kickoff Saturday at 1 p.m.
