The Higginsville Board of Aldermen made an appointment Monday, Nov. 17 to the city’s youth commission, following the departure of a longtime member.

At Monday night’s meeting, the board approved Mayor Don Knehans’ appointment of Stephanie Cahill to the youth commission. Cahill will serve the unexpired term until May 2026, succeeding Gina Kouril.

The only other item on the board’s agenda was adoption of the ordinance calling for the municipal general election on April 7.  The office of mayor will be on the ballot in Higginsville, as will the aldermen seats currently occupied by Lee Barker in Ward One, Kellie Berry in Ward Two, and Galen Tuley in Ward Three.

Also Monday night, city administrator Jeanette Dobson reminded aldermen and the public of several holiday activities scheduled in Higginsville, starting this weekend with the open house and craft fair. The Mayor’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 2 at 5:45 p.m. at City Hall, followed by the parade at 6 p.m. Dobson also reminds Higginsville residents that City Hall will close Nov. 27 and 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Higginsville Board of Aldermen will next meet Dec. 1.
