A lot south of the Carrollton Square was rezoned after the town council hosted a public hearing on the proposal Monday, Nov. 17.
The hearing began Monday’s meeting, where council members heard about the proposal to change the zoning for a vacant lot at the northeast corner of South Main and Shanklin from R-1 Residential to C-2 Commercial. Mayor Keith Higgins tells KMMO News that the council approved the rezoning request during their new business, then approved a lease with My Hometown to establish a green space at a vacant lot on the southeast corner of the square. The council also approved leasing city land to house a radio tower, and approved street closures to allow the Lighted Christmas Parade to take place along Main Street and around the square the evening of Nov. 28.
During his report, Mayor Higgins noted that crews are resuming work on improvements to sidewalks at City Park. Higgins says the new sidewalks should be completed in the next week.
