High school basketball was postponed by wintry weather Monday, Dec. 1, but the region’s gyms and fieldhouses are expected to quickly heat up with tournament action beginning Tuesday.
The 95th Annual Glasgow Invitational has pushed things back a day, as three games on our airwaves tip things off Tuesday evening. Beginning around 6 p.m., we’ll feature a doubleheader between Glasgow and Marceline, starting with the boys contest, with the girls game around 7:30 p.m. The Cairo and New Franklin boys are the nightcap and are slated to tip off around 9 p.m. These three games will air on KMMO-FM 102.9 and online at kmmo.com. Before our broadcasts, the Cairo and Slater girls will begin play around 4:30 p.m.
The Marshall boys will compete in the 87th Annual Tipton Boys Tournament. They have the four seed and will face California at 5:30 p.m. Pregame is slated for 5:20 p.m. on KMMO AM 1300. Other games scheduled from Tipton on Tuesday include top-seed South Callaway squaring off against Chamois at 4 p.m. and Skyline and Versailles battling at 7 p.m.
One major change to the bracket is the withdrawal of the host Cardinals, following their football team’s 29-0 victory Saturday over West Platte to advance Tipton to this Friday’s Class One state championship game against Putnam County. Because of the scratch, second-seeded Camdenton has automatically advanced to a semifinal Wednesday night, while the loser of the Skyline/Versailles games will be assured of a spot in the consolation game Thursday evening.
