
Betty J. Hemeyer, 97, of Slater, died Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Big Bend Retreat.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at First Baptist Church, with Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery, with Daniel Hemeyer, Brett Hemeyer, Brad Hemeyer, Chris Hemeyer, Nick Hemeyer, Mitchell Kays, Marty Kays, and Matt Kays serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Whitaker Hemeyer, Parker Hemeyer, Vance Hemeyer, Colin Hemeyer, Chase Hemeyer, Tyson Hemeyer, and Jacob Johnson. Visitation will be Monday, December 15, 2025 from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat in care of Weiker Funeral Home.
Born May 18, 1928 in rural Slater, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Dellorese Neff Van Booven. On December 21, 1950 at the First Baptist Church in Slater, she married Erdell C. Hemeyer, and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2024.
She is survived by four sons, Jerry Hemeyer and his wife Maggie of Lillington, North Carolina, Carl Hemeyer and his wife Jan of rural Slater, Clay Hemeyer and his wife Darla of rural Slater, and Mark Hemeyer of Marshall; a daughter, Judy Kays and her husband Ed of Marshall; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Etty Rose Kays; and a brother, J.F. Van Booven.
Mrs. Hemeyer was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Slater. She was a 1946 graduate of Gilliam High School, and a 1950 graduate of Central Methodist College in Fayette. She was a lifelong rural Slater resident.
