Marceline residents will see changes on their utility rates in 2026 after action taken by the City Council.

The Marceline City Council reviewed utility rate adjustments for water, wastewater, and electric during its meeting on Wednesday, December 10. The council held a public hearing prior to the approval of the adjusted rates City Manager Jesse Wallis says the council approved a five percent increase for water, five percent increase for wastewater, and a $15 increase to the base electric rate. The updated rates take effect January 1, 2026.

The council also approved the low bids for a pair of improvement projects at the East Ballfields. The council accepted a $21,693 bid from Fence Pro for a outfield perimeter chain link fence, and a $33,400 bid from Patriot Athletic Equipment for an in-line suspended cable backstop with netting. Wallis said that the combined total of both winning bids was slightly over the $50,000 budget, but city staff indicated they can reallocate funding to cover the difference.

The council also held a discussion over fingerprinting and background check fees. The total proposed fee that was discussed was $70; which includes a $43.50 pass-through fee to cover the Missouri State Highway Patrol processing cost, and a $16.50 city administrative fee.

The council’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
