A Sedalia man is facing charges of assault and armed criminal action after another man was found stabbed on the front yard of a Pettis County home Wednesday, Dec. 10.

According to a probable cause statement, the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a stabbing late Wednesday evening. Deputies say they found the victim near the road with a stab wound to his upper right abdominal area. Deputies say the victim told them that he was attacked when he knocked on the front door of the property. The victim’s girlfriend identified the assailant as 43-year-old Samuel Storer, who was arrested by deputies a short time later. During questioning, deputies say that the victim was looking for the owner of the house and had been allowed to enter the home earlier in the day, but that Storer then told him to leave and not return. Storer then claimed that the victim attempted to break into the house, prompting Storer to “react” and stab the victim. Deputies say they recovered the knife believed to have been used in the assault. They also noted that Storer may have been under the influence of an unknown substance.

Storer was charged Thursday by the Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office with first-degree assault and first-degree armed criminal action. His bond is set at $25,000, and his initial court appearance is pending.
