The Higginsville Board of Aldermen considered a rezoning request for Lafayette County MU Extension during its meeting on Monday, December 15.

The request was first approved by the Planning Commission on December 1. City Administrator Jeanette Dobson says the request was to rezone property near Highway 13 Boulevard from Agricultural to Highway Commercial.

Dobson says MU Extension intends to develop a campus on this property to support the new County Fairgrounds.

The rezoning request was approved by the Board of Aldermen.

In other news, filing is underway for the Municipal Election on April 7th, and several incumbents have already filed. Lee Barker already has filed in Ward 1, Kellie Berry in Ward 2, and Don Knehans has filed to serve again as Mayor. The last day to file is December 30th.

Also, Higginsville City Hall will be closed on December 25 and 26, and on January 1 and 2, in celebration of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
