Smith-Cotton High School could see a pair of additions to their building in the future, as members of the Sedalia 200 Board of Education will open the new year mulling over plans for more athletic and fine arts space.

Initial designs for a new wrestling wing behind the current gymnasium and expanded facilities for music and drama were presented at the board’s meeting Dec. 15. Supt. Dr Todd Fraley says district officials have worked on and reviewed the proposal for a couple years and are close to finalizing them.

Fraley adds that expansion of the fine arts wing would include larger music rooms and a dedicated drama room.

Fraley says the plan is for the board to adopt final plans this spring, and construction to take place during the 2026-27 school year. Fraley anticipates the project costing $10-12 million, which he says the district will fund with another round of lease certificates.
