A fifth grade student from the Moberly School District has died following an accidental shooting in the home over the weekend.

According to a release, the District is providing counseling and supportive services for students and staff. The district notes these resources will be available for as long as they are needed. Moberly Schools also thanked its community partners for their support at this time.

Per the Moberly School District:

“The Moberly School District is deeply saddened to share the loss of a fifth-grade student who died as a result of an accidental shooting in the home over the weekend.

Our hearts are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all those affected by this tragic loss. The district is providing counseling and supportive services for students and staff and will continue to make these resources available for as long as they are needed.

We are grateful to our community partners and local agencies including Central Christian Church, Family Life Fellowship, Renick R-V School District, Sturgeon R-V School District, Westran R-I School District, and Burrell Behavioral Health, who have stepped forward to support our schools during this difficult time to help provide grief support and care.
