Multiple outlets are reporting that Eric Bieniemy’s return to the Kansas City Chiefs is a done deal.

Bieniemy is expected to sign a multiyear contract that will see him return to the team as offensive coordinator, a position he filled from 2018 to 2022. In those five seasons, the Chiefs regularly ranked in the top five in points per game, contributing to the team’s victories in Super Bowls LIV and LVII. This past season Bieniemy was the running backs coach for Chicago, after brief stints with the Washington Commanders and UCLA. Reaction was positive from key players, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes posting on social media an old photo of himself with Bieniemy, while tight end Travis Kelce lauded Bieniemy’s return on his “New Heights” podcast.

Previous offensive coordinator Matt Nagy did not pursue a renewal of his contract when it expired after last season, which saw the Chiefs plummet to 6-11 and miss out on the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
