Emergency snow routes will go into effect Friday, Jan. 23, 2026 in the City of Lexington, as Winter Storm Fern takes aim on the area.

In a statement issued Thursday by Lexington Mayor Tom Hughes, residents whose vehicles are still parked along the city’s marked emergency snow routes after 6 p.m. Friday will be issued citations. The restrictions will remain in place until the storm has passed and streets have been fully cleared.

The city also reminds residents to dress appropriate when outside and avoid as much outside work as possible. They also remind anyone who had to travel to have a full tank of gas, warm clothing, a blanket, shovel, and water.
