Three people were seriously injured Wednesday, Feb. 4 in a crash west of Sedalia.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that two teens were driving westbound on Route Y around 9:20 p.m. Troopers say one of the cars attempted to overtake the other as the two crested a hill near Van Natta Road, five miles west of the city. That’s when one of the teens, a 15-year-old from Sedalia, struck an eastbound vehicle driven by a 24-year-old Sedalia woman. The crash spun the eastbound car into the path of the car driven by a 16-year-old from Warrensburg. The two westbound vehicles came to rest off the south side of the roadway, while the Warrensburg vehicle also ran off the eastbound shoulder and struck a tree.

The Sedalia woman was flown to a Columbia hospital, while the Warrensburg teenager was taken by ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital. The Sedalia teenager was also taken to Columbia. Troopers add that it’s not known if the three were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.
