The Concordia R-2 School District has announced its decision to cancel school for the rest of the week due to high rates of illness and absences for both students and staff.
With school canceled on Wednesday through Friday, and the Presidents’ Day Holiday on Monday, Concordia R-2 students won’t return to the classroom until Tuesday, February 17th. Superintendent Theresa Christian says the decision to cancel school was made after district-wide attendance dipped below 75 percent on February 10th.
Over the next few days, offices will be open and custodial staff will be sanitizing both campuses. Christian says she’s hopeful that the extra days off will help prevent more district-wide absences this semester.
Christian notes the district will not have to make up any of the days missed this week. Concordia’s activities and athletics will still be held over the next few days depending on the health of the students participating.
The Concordia Board of Education is still meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
