The Harrisburg Bulldogs went on the road to Fayette, claiming a pair of comfortable Central States 8 conference wins Friday, Feb. 13 that was heard on KMMO-FM.

The visitors had very few problems in either skirmish, posting a 56-24 victory in the girls game which was followed by a 72-53 win in the boys contest.

Back on their heels from the very beginning, the Falcon boys quickly found themselves in a big hole, trailing 21-8 after one quarter and then 45-20 at intermission. Harrisburg extended their lead to more than 30, briefly putting the running clock into effect at the start of the final period, thanks to a 64-33 advantage. At the end, the Bulldogs had some third-stringers on the floor as they coasted to a 72-53 win that was more one-sided than the final score indicated.

Winning for the sixth time in their last seven outings, Harrisburg improved to 4-2 in conference play and got back to .500 for the season at 12-12. Sophomore Evan Freeman came off the bench to have his best game ever as a high-school player, scoring 25 points. Fayette was paced by 20 points from Charles Alexander and 15 courtesy of Colten Cross. The Falcons have lost eight of their last nine contests and dropped to 1-5 in the league and 3-20 on the year.

Earlier, the girls’ matchup followed the same script with Harrisburg putting this one away in minutes, owning an 18-4 lead after one period and then 32-9 at the break before posting their 56-24 victory. Winning 10 of their last 12 games, the Bulldogs are firmly entrenched in second place in the Central State 8 race, standing at 5-1 in the league and 18-5 overall. Audrey Arnold led the winners with 18 points while Lorelai Hunziker added 17 and Jaidyn Stephenson scored 10. For the Fayette Falcons, the loss was the fifth in their last six outings, dropping to 2-4 in conference play and 12-11 for the season.

Harrisburg remain on the road Monday evening, as they’ll travel to Salisbury for a clash with their former conference foes. KMMO will also feature this game, with pregame coverage beginning at 5:50 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys contest around 7:30 p.m.
