A Warsaw man was among three people injured Monday, Feb. 16 at an intersection along Interstate 49 in Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the 52-year-old man had just crossed the bridge carrying Route 52 over I-49 at Exit 129 at around 7:25 p.m. According to the patrol’s report, the man swerved his pickup to avoid a collision, only to make contact with an eastbound pickup driven by a 37-year-old woman from Butler. The Warsaw pickup then struck a guardrail and went off the right side of the roadway. Both drivers were taken to a nearby hospital, with the Warsaw man suffering moderate injury and Butler woman receiving serious injuries. A passenger in the second truck, a 38-year-old man from Butler, also sustained serious injuries and was taken to a Kansas City area hospital.

Troopers note that both people in the Butler pickup were wearing their seat belts, while it’s not known if the Warsaw driver was wearing his at the time of the crash.
