The jury trial for a former Slater teacher accused of attempting to entice a minor online will now take place at the end of June.

Online court records indicate that the trial of 34-year-old Geoffrey C Butler of Marshall will now take place June 30 in Lafayette County. Butler was charged last year with attempted enticement, after an investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol accused Butler of initiating contact in October 2024 with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl from Iowa. The Patrol noted in their probable cause statement that the girl was actually an undercover officer conducting an online investigation. Their investigation found that Butler allegedly requested explicit photos through a cell phone app, and also sent photos of himself, including some taken at Slater High School, where he was a teacher at the time. He’s also believed to have requested a meeting and offered to pick the girl up.

Butler was initially scheduled to go on trial this month, after his case was transferred last July from Saline to Lafayette County. He remains in the Saline County Jail on $250,000, cash-only bond. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for the afternoon of June 1.
