The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works approved a recommendation to replace the water main on Ted Avenue, Bond Avenue, and Wall Street during its meeting on Wednesday, February 25th.
MMU plans to install approximately 3,000 feet of new plastic main to replace the four inch cast iron main, which was first installed in 1924. MMU plans to use in-house labor and equipment to complete the work. The budget for the project is $200,000.
The board also approved a motion to continue converting overhead single-phase lines in walkway easements to underground in fiscal year 2026. This is a long-term project which aims to lower future maintenance costs, eliminate tree trimming burdens, and increase reliability. MMU plans to complete the 900, 1000, and 1100 blocks of Sunrise and Whippoorwill, along with the 800 block of East Rae in 2026.
The board’s next meeting is set for Wednesday, March 11th.
