The Marshall Owls got off to a hot start, scoring six runs in the first three innings before holding on late to defeat the Richmond Spartans 6-4 at Marshall High School in a game heard on KMMO AM 1300.

Owls starter Kye Wilcoxson gave three straight hits to start the game, leading to a two-run first inning for Richmond. Wilcoxson settled in though, only permitting one more run during his next five innings. He completed six innings, allowing three runs on ten hits and a walk.

The Owls lineup responded nicely in the bottom of the first, batting around to score three runs. Wilcoxson helped his own cause, driving home Marshall’s first run with a single. The Owls also scored two runs in the second and one more in the third.

The Owls went to the bullpen for the seventh, with Will Castaneda getting his first two batters on flyouts before allowing a two-out single and a walk. Brock Marshall then went to the mound with the tying run on first, getting the final out on a groundout after Richmond scored its fourth run on an error.

The Owls had six hits and drew six walks as a team, only striking out three times. Wilcoxson had two of the hits, while Marshall, Chase Thompson, Kelar Pointer, and Emmitt Verts all had one.

Marshall improves to 1-0 on the season. The team will next host a triangular with Tipton and Chillicothe on Saturday, March 21st. Coverage will begin at 10:50 a.m. KMMO AM 1300 and online at KMMO.com.
