The Higginsville Board of Aldermen approved a recommendation from the Transportation and Waste Management Committee to increase rebates on curb/gutter and sidewalk installations.

The committee met on March 16th to discuss the rebates outlined in city ordinance. City Administrator Jeanette Dobson says Aldermen decided to increase the rebate amount for residents wishing to install curbing, guttering, or sidewalks.

The curb and gutter rebate was increased from $12 to $18 per lineal foot, while the sidewalk rebate increased from $2 to $3 per square foot. Aldermen approved the update to the city ordinance during its meeting on Monday, April 6th.

In other news, the board approved an ordinance allowing the city to spend up to $12,500 to purchase fireworks for the city’s fireworks display in July. The city has an agreement with the Higginsville Chamber of Commerce to reimburse the city for those funds. Aldermen also approved an agreement with The Lion’s Club of Higginsville to design the display. The fireworks display is scheduled for Friday, July 3rd.
