Students at Marshall Public Schools will see the same lunch and breakfast prices this fall that they’ve experienced for several years.
By a vote of the district’s Board of Education on Tuesday, Apr. 14, lunch prices will remain $2.35 at Spainhower Primary and Marshall Intermediate schools, $2.40 at Bueker Middle, and $2.45 at Marshall High School. Breakfast at all grades levels will remain the same at $1.15. However, adult meal lunch prices will increase to $3.65, and breakfast will now cost $2.30. Also Tuesday night, the board approved extending the food service agreement with Southwest Food Service, who became the district’s provider last fall.
In other business, the board accepted the bid from SIC Midwest of Osage Beach for a new roof over the gymnasium at the Tom Butterfield Early Childhood Center. Supt. Caleb Petet says the new roof comes with an extended warranty that’s worth the additional cost.
SIC’s bid came in at $96,428, but with a 20-year warranty on the work. Petet noted that while two bids came in much lower, the warranties were not as long. The board also approved two vehicle purchases, a 15-passenger sports bus totaling $98,400 this fiscal year, and a 2024 Bluebird long bus that will join the fleet during the next fiscal year totaling $115,000.
Petet says the used bus has about 30,000 miles on it and will run on unleaded, providing additional savings to the district. Marshall will trade in a couple older buses as part of the purchase.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, the board recognized outgoing member Amy Green and swore in Andreas Enyart, who along with returning members Jack Lenz and Matt Smith were the only three candidates to file for the three open seats. Bryon Jacques will remain school board president for a sixth year, while Matt Smith remains vice president, and Lenz was named treasurer.
