Crystal Wiseman was sworn-in as new Mayor of the City of Slater during the meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, April 21.
Wiseman, who served several terms on the council, was the only candidate to file for the seat prior to last December’s filing deadline. The seat was left vacant for several months following the resignation of Terry Jordan in December 2025. Wiseman says she hopes to bring some new ideas to the role, while continuing to make positive changes for residents.
Council members were also sworn in during the meeting, with Jason Weiker (Ward 1), Brett Hemeyer (Ward 2), and Danny Bryson (Ward 4) each securing another two-year term on the council. Jake Brumit will continue to serve the city in Ward 3, but was not present at Tuesday’s meeting. Additionally, Harry Lightfoot signed up to fill out the one-year unexpired term in Ward 1; and Josh Knox will continue to serve in Ward 2, also for a one-year unexpired term. Weiker was also appointed to continue serving as Mayor Pro-Tem.
In other news from the meeting, City Attorney Zachary Sherwood announced his resignation effective May 13, due to him accepting a full-time position as the next Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Johnson County. Sherwood says he is currently looking for a suitable replacement for the city.
