
Lela M. Mead, 95, of Marshall, died Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at The Arbors at Westport Estates.
Graveside services will be Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Slater City Cemetery, with Rev. Liz Lindley officiating. Pallbearers will be Floyd Alsbach, Sam Mead, Brandon Duran, Jack Alsbach, Nathan Callhan, and Marty Smith. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Marshall or the Marshall Municipal Band in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born September 9, 1930 in Weleetka, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Ella Ledbetter Edge. On December 19, 1955 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she married H. Clay Mead, and he preceded her in death on March 4, 2021.
She is survived by a son, Sam Mead (Beth) of Columbia; a daughter, Lynda Alsbach (Floyd) of Marshall; three grandchildren, Hannah Duran (Brandon) of Kansas City, Cori Callahan (Nathan) of Chicago, and Jack Alsbach (Claire) of Kansas City; and five great-grandchildren, Luca Clay Duran, Fletcher Duran, Coraline Alsbach, Annie Alsbach, and Charlie Alsbach. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jackson Franklin Edge.
Mrs. Mead was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marshall, and Chapter GM of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She had been a longtime member of Monday Club, Fitzgibbon Hospital Auxiliary, 401 Couples Club, and the Sunday Night Bridge Club. She was a 1948 graduate of Okemah High School in Okemah, Oklahoma. Following graduation, she worked as a telephone operator. Prior to her marriage to Clay, she worked as a Stewardess for Central Airlines. She and Clay owned and operated Clay Mead Furniture on the north edge of Marshall from 1957 until their retirement in 1992.
