Four Cardinals picked up multiple hits as St Louis overtook the Miami Marlins 5-3 on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at LoanDepot Park.

Alec Burleson scored the game’s first run with one out in the first when his line drive to center field scored JJ Wetherholt. The Marlins tied it up with their first batter of the game, when Jakob Marsee’s fly ball to right field bounced off the top of the fence’s padding to count as a home run. The Cardinals retook the lead in the third with a fielder’s choice by Burleson, scoring Wetherholt a second time. Nathan Church extended the lead in the following inning with a two-run Jolt to right field. Nolan Gorman added to the lead with an RBI single in the fifth. The Marlins cut the lead in half in the eighth when Heriberto Hernández singled in a pair of runs.

Burleson and Church, along with Ivan Herrera and Masyn Winn, each had two hits in the game, while Marsee’s home run was the first of his three hits for Miami. Dustin May earned his third win of the season, allowing the lone run on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Riley O’Brien secured his seventh save of the year with one hit but one punchout. Chris Paddack took his fourth loss of the year, allowing all five Redbird runs on eight hits and a walk, but fanning seven in his 4.2 innings.

The Cardinals are 14-9, sitting 1.5 games behind the Reds for the NL Central lead. Kyle Leahy gets the start for St Louis in the rubber match Wednesday against Janson Junk, with first pitch at 11:10 a.m.
