The Pettis County Commission issued a proclamation this week recognizing Thursday, April 30 as National Therapy Animal Day.

The commission issued the proclamation during their session Tuesday. The commission says that National Therapy Animal Day recognizes the important role therapy animal teams play in communities across the country. They add that the proclamation highlights the positive impact therapy animals can have on overall health and well-being, including reducing stress and improving emotional health.

Representatives from TAILS (Therapy Animals Improving Lives) and Retrieving Freedom joined the commission Tuesday. Commissioners commended the volunteers and their animals for bringing comfort and support to so many, including veterans, patients, students and senior citizens.
