The Kansas City Chiefs will have an extra day to get Patrick Mahomes back to full health, as the National Football League has announced that the Chiefs will open the coming NFL season on Monday Night Football.
The league announced Tuesday, May 12 that the Chiefs will face division foes Denver on Sept. 14, with kickoff planned for 7 p.m. It wasn’t announced whether Arrowhead Stadium or Mile High Stadium would host the game. Denver unseated Kansas City for the AFC West crown last season, ending the Chiefs’ nine-year reign atop the division. However, Denver is also dealing with needing to get their QB1 back to full health, as Bo Nix suffered an ankle injury in the Broncos’ playoff win against Buffalo. Meanwhile, Mahomes continues to come back from the ACL and LCL tears he suffered last season. The game is also expected to mark the Chiefs debut of Kenneth Walker III, last year’s Super Bowl MVP.
The NFL’s full schedule release is slated for Thursday at 7 p.m.
