Marshall Owls baseball couldn’t generate enough offense early, falling to the Boonville Pirates 8-1 on Thursday, May 14 in a game heard on KMMO AM 1300.

After a scoreless first inning, the Pirates capitalized on a leadoff walk issued by Brock Marshall in the second to score the game’s first run. An RBI triple from Brody Porter in the third inning made it a 2-0 score. Boonville added to the lead in the fifth, when Porter crushed a two-run homer.

Brock Marshall went five innings for the Owls, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks. The Pirates added four more runs in the seventh, all charged to Will Castaneda.

The Owls did plate a run in the seventh thanks to an RBI single from Myer Klinge. Boonville starter Bodie White was still able to go the distance, allowing just a run on five hits to go along with eight strikeouts.

Marshall ends the regular season with a 12-13 record, now having lost each of their last four. The Owls are the fourth seed in the Class 4 District 8 tournament, which gets underway on Monday, May 18.  Marshall will face Hallsville in the district quarterfinals at 7 p.m. at Southern Boone High School in Ashland.
