With the mercury hovering around zero and below, residents in an area town had to endure a power outage for several hours on New Year’s night.
Carrollton Municipal Utilities Superintendent Clint Mathis says it all started with a fault in a switch gear just before 6 o’clock.

During the outage, warming centers were set up at the Assembly of God Church and the Carrollton Junior High School gymnasium.
Mathis said it took a lot of teamwork, but everything is up and going, and everybody had power restored by around midnight.

Mathis said Carroll County Memorial Hospital had partial power, so it was able to remain open.
Mathis said the city is now on its new switch-gear system, which it was in the process of upgrading anyway. He said there still is some work to complete the process, but everything is up and running as of now.
