Marshall Municipal Utilities recently sent out a public notice to inform its customers of a violation in a drinking water standard.
According to the public notice, MMU says this is not an emergency situation, but wanted to inform customers of the violation MMU’s water system had received. The violation reportedly was due to a higher average number of disinfection by-products or TTHM’s present in the water. Reportedly, the average amount of TTHMs that is acceptable in drinking water for a 12-month period is 80 parts per billion (ppb) or less, where from October 1, 2016, to September 30, 2017, MMU’s average was 82 ppb.
MMU stated this is not an immediate risk for customers, however, if a person has specific health concerns, they are advised to consult a doctor.
Also, MMU says the construction of a new water treatment plant is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2018, as well as future changes to the water distribution system will help reduce the presence of TTHMs in the drinking water.
