The Marshall City Council approved the purchase of a refuse truck for the municipal services department late in 2017. At the same time, Municipal Services Director Bill Anderson asked the council to approve the purchase of a second vehicle due to a couple of the department’s trucks basically being beyond repair.
At the meeting of the council on Tuesday, January 16, Ward 3 Councilman Dan Brandt and member of the Municipal Services Committee, explained the department’s predicament.
Brandt said the sale of those trucks should bring in about $8,000 to $10,000 each.
Brandt said the department needs six to seven trucks to run daily routes, and several are getting up in age.
After hearing all of the pros and cons, the council decided to pull the trigger and approve the purchase of a McNelius truck for $153,764.
Brandt noted the new one will not be delivered for eight to nine months, so it possibly could be moved into next year’s budget.
