A Sedalia man who allegedly attempted to bribe a law-enforcement officer last week has been charged with a felony.
A probable-cause statement says a traffic stop was conducted by a Sedalia Police Officer on Thursday, January 18. The driver reportedly was slurring his speech, and the officer allegedly could smell intoxicants coming from the vehicle. The driver reportedly refused to do the standard field sobriety tests, and was transported to the police department for further investigation. At the station, the man allegedly became uncooperative, argumentative and threatening toward law enforcement and refused to take a breathalyzer test. The subject had to be placed into a WRAP restraint to keep him from hurting himself or others.
After a warrant was obtained for the subject’s blood, and it was drawn at a local hospital, the subject allegedly offered the transporting officer $5,000 to let him go.
Online court documents say 40-year-old Jason L. Offineer has been charged with a Class E Felony for Bribery of a Public Servant and a misdemeanor for a DWI. Bond has been set at $3,000 cash or surety, with unspecified special conditions.
An initial hearing for Offineer at Pettis County Circuit Court in Sedalia is pending.
