Construction on Special Olympics Missouri’s Training for Life Campus in Jefferson City is approaching a key milestone, and a special ceremony is scheduled this week.
According to a news release, the facility will be one step closer to becoming the home for Missouri’s 15,494 Special Olympics athletes on Wednesday, January 31.
Reinhardt/Wilson, a joint venture between Centralia-based Reinhardt Construction and St. Louis-based S. M. Wilson & Co., is scheduled to place the final steel beam on the facility, officially topping off the building with a special ceremony at 11 a.m.
Designed to be a world-class training facility, the Training for Life Campus reportedly will be the largest and first of its kind in the United States and will offer year-round training, health and leadership opportunities for athletes, coaches, volunteers and staff.
Located at 2209 Christy Drive, the campus will include a sports arena that features indoor basketball and volleyball courts; space for free health screenings; multimedia conference rooms; a health and fitness center; and administrative office space. Additionally, several outdoor recreational fields and courts for various types of athletics will surround the campus.
The 32,000 square-foot project broke ground in May 2017 and is expected to be open this fall.
