The Marshall Police Department is transitioning its crime reporting system from UCR to MIBERS to get in line with a national directive ahead of time.
During the meeting of the Marshall City Council on Monday, March 5, Police Chief Mike Donnell said the UCR system is antiquated and not detailed enough.

Donnell said MIBERS or Missouri Incident Reporting Based System will provide more detailed and accurate information. But it also is more time consuming and will cause the numbers to appear to increase. He said, for example, under UCR for January, there were 30 incidents, but it increased to 76 using the MIBERS system.

Donnell said getting ahead of the game will be beneficial for the department because all departments will be required to utilize the MIBERS system by 2020.
