There are two contested races for seats on the Marshall City Council and two seats available on the Marshall School Board this year.
Marshall residents had their opportunity to hear from the candidates in person during a Candidate Forum on Thursday night at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Each candidate was given 10 minutes to give information about him/herself, and there was a chance for a few questions from the audience in the 2-hour long event, which also included a presentation on the countywide half-cent sales tax measure being proposed for economic development by Marshall-Saline Development Corporation Executive Director Stan Moore.
School board candidates Matt Smith, Bryon Jacques and Erin Williams gave their presentations in person; and the fourth candidate, Shannon Johnson, who is out of the country, had his information read by the event’s emcee, Michelle Pointer.
For City Council, in Ward 1, incumbent Ron Ott is being challenged by Jim Steinmetz. In Ward 2, incumbent Kirk Arends is being challenged by Teresa Maples Hoey and Larry Godsey. Incumbents Dan Brandt in Ward 3 and Rudy Reyes in Ward 4 are running unopposed.
Absentee voting currently is ongoing and will continue during regular business hours through 5 p.m. on Monday, April 2, at the county clerk’s office. The Municipal Election is Tuesday, April 3.
