Several communication students from Missouri Valley College recently received awards from the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association (MBEA) for audio and video projects which are judged by broadcasting professionals.
According to a news release, the MBEA is made up of radio and TV broadcast departments from 15 colleges and universities across the state, where students enter projects to get feedback from professionals for the yearly contest.
Missouri Valley’s communication students which received awards this year include: Santiago Salazar who earned first place in each of the Audio News Story and Audio Documentary categories for his story on MVC student Manuela Castellano entitled “Leaving Venezuela” and interview “From Venezuela to Missouri Valley”; Ricardo Padilla earn first place in Video-Hard News for his story “MLK Walk”; and Bobby Collins III received honorable mentions for News Script Writing for his story titled “Volleyball Kneels” and for the On-Air Shift category.
Director of Viking Sports Network Ken Kujawa said “Looking back through the years of the contest, I believe this is the first time that Missouri Valley College has won first place in the video hard news category, which is a compliment to our director of MVC TV and instructor of mass communication Chaz Maddi and his students.”
