A Clinton man who allegedly led a law-enforcement officer on a high-speed chase just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, in Pettis County has been charged with a felony.
According to a probable-cause statement, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop for speeding, but the driver of the vehicle did not stop. The trooper tailed the vehicle, which reportedly reached up to 114 miles per hour in a 65-miles-per-hour zone on northbound U.S. Highway 65. The driver of the suspect vehicle also reportedly turned its lights to try to avoid detection.
Online court documents say a warrant has been issued and 34-year-old Christopher Shawn McCartney has been charged with a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest or Stop by Fleeing, Creating a Substantial Risk of Serious Injury or Death to Any Person and three driving-related misdemeanors. Bond has been set at $25,000 cash or surety.
McCartney’s initial hearing at Pettis County Circuit Court is pending.
