Two Brookfield residents each have been charged with a drug-related felony after a warranted search of their residence in Linn County on Monday, May 21.
A probable-cause statement says Brookfield Police officers were searching for an individual who had an out-of-state felony warrant for his arrest and was believed to be at a residence in the 400 block of East Prairie Street. Officers knocked on the front door and noticed 54-year-old Warren James go from room to room without answering the door, but eventually the door was opened by 46-year-old Velicia Gonzalez.
During the search, Officers reportedly found one baggie containing a small amount methamphetamine. as well as several empty baggies and other drug paraphernalia that contained methamphetamine residue. Officers also located and apprehended the suspect who had the felony warrant for his arrest.
Online court documents say James and Gonzalez each have been charged with a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Except 35 Grams or Less of Marijuana or Synthetic Cannabis and misdemeanors for drug possession. Bond for each was set at $25,000 cash or surety with ten percent allowed.
Each defendant’s initial hearing at Linn County Circuit Court is pending.
