A Chillicothe teenager drowned in Livingston County over the weekend.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old was in the Thompson River and entered an area of deep water just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. The subject reportedly was unable to swim and drowned.
Michael Cappell’s body was recovered by the Highway Patrol Marine Operations at 5:15 p.m. and was pronounced deceased by Livingston County Deputy Coroner Brooks Macoubrie at 5:55 p.m. on Sunday, June 10.
The drowning happened about two miles north of the Grand River and two miles west of Chillicothe.
Assisting the Highway Patrol in the search and recovery were personnel from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department; Livingston County first responders; Trenton and Bethany dive teams; and Missouri Task Force 1’s K-9 Unit.
