Big bucks have been deposited into the state’s public-education fund by the Missouri Lottery.
According to a news release, annual profits from the Lottery to public education topped $306 million– with the lottery’s final monthly transfer being $24.6 million for June– in FY18, which ends June 30. This yearly total is the second highest in the Lottery’s 32-year history. FY16 saw the highest profits ever – $308.9 million.
One hundred percent of the profits from Missouri Lottery ticket sales go to public education. In fiscal year 2018, these profits were appropriated for a variety of programs, including: the Foundation Program, the A+ Scholarships Program, Special Education Excess Costs, the Classroom Trust Fund, and approximately nine to 12 percent of the state’s funding for several public higher-education institutions’ operating costs.
