An inmate at the Saline County Jail has been charged with a felony for allegedly assaulting another inmate on Monday, August 20.
According to a probable-cause statement, the two engaged in an argument while sitting at a table. The victim reportedly raised up a paperback book in his hand as if he was going to tap Cole Samuel Scott’s head, but no contact was made. Scott got up and struck the victim in the right shoulder with a closed fist and struck him in the face, causing the victim to fall backwards and hit his head on a metal stool base, causing moderate to severe bleeding. The victim was transported by ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall and then flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of serious injuries.
Online court documents say Scott, who is being held at the jail on a non-related domestic-assault charge, has been charged with a Class D Felony for Assault in the Second Degree. Bond has been set at $15,000 cash only.
Scott was arraigned on Tuesday, August 21, and his cause was continued for a counsel-status hearing on Wednesday, August 22, at Saline County Circuit Court.
